WHY I'M GOING TO AFRICA
I’m leaving tomorrow morning for a 12-day trip to Khartoum, Sudan where I will be working with a private university. During my time there, I will be helping the leadership of the university develop and improve their marketing and media messaging, amongst other projects, tasks, and duties that are not yet known to me. It’s going to be really hot there, but probably not too dangerous. I get back on...

THANK YOU
Guys. A few weeks ago I asked you to join me in donating my 24th birthday to charity. We called it, “Nate’s Anti-Birthday” and, quite honestly, it was a success. As of today, March 27th, we’ve raised $2,502 for charity: water (http://www.charitywater.org), an organization that funds clean water projects in developing nations. $2502 can give 125 people clean water for 20 years....

THE BEARD
It seems only natural that at least once in their young lives, those men who are able to, will attempt to grow a beard. As soon as a post-pubescent dude notices whiskers on his chin he likely thinks, “I wonder if I could grow this bad boy out”; pretty natural.
The male’s response to having The Beard, however, is quiet the opposite of natural. The emotions that are invested, and...

Excerpt from the review of "Nate! The Musical"
In the beginning of the third act, the main character decides that it may actually be worth having a girlfriend. Interestingly enough this realization does not come to the main character after a long monologue reflecting on loneliness, or even an upbeat dance number filled with his best friends teasing him for being without a lady on New Year’s Eve. Rather Nate decides one morning after his...

on valentine’s day, me and my ex-girlfriend emily went to dinner at this restaurant in williamsburg and then after dinner we took a cab home and as we’re going over the williamsburg bridge in the cab, she says she feels something and reaches into the crevice in between the back of the seat and…

Sufjan Stevens
I’d be lying to you if I said I knew a lot about Sufjan Stevens. I don’t know where he’s from (Chicago maybe?) or really when he became popular (2006?). I don’t even know if Sufjan is his real name or just something he picked up in art school (I’m assuming he went to art school). I don’t know these things because, for me, Sufjan was unlike all the other...

Pavement is't Rad
What is your favorite band? Not, “who”, but, “what”. What experiences, feelings, emotions, sights, smells, people, memories, pain, etc. does your favorite band evoke?
Pavement is my favorite band.
And Pavement is also my junior year of high school riding in the back of my parents car south on I-35 to a new city. A new life. Pavement was being scared to death, but also...

In an effort to prove wrong the multiple women who have come into my life optimistic for a relationship, and then exited quickly, proclaiming, “There’s no hope for you!”; I’ve decided to have a child. A child would be the perfect vehicle for displaying my high level of responsibility, value of human life, and my quote-unquote “feelings” (which I do have, thank...

The View from Sunday Morning
If you were to put yourself in my shoes right now, you would probably have to sit on my lap and try to squeeze your toes into the gaps between the tongue of my shoes and my ankles. There really isn’t much of a gap so you’re probably going to have to curl your toes down and then push against the top of the shoe’s tongue. It’s rather strong material so you’d probably...
I'm still alive.
I once had a girl ask me, “How do you live your life?”. At the time I chuckled and wrote it off as just another XX home-body not understanding an XY who needs to keep moving, meeting new people, and hurting his body by gorging on late night whataburger and laughable acquaintances at out of town bars. But lately it’s hit home a little more. Between the late nights at work, and the...

The announcement comes as a shock to you, however to the other party and everyone else, it was clearly going to happen sooner or later.
You say you’re okay with it but you know it’s going to be weird when you see them with someone else and you secretly wish bad things to happen to them.
They left you for another with no soul but considerably more money.
It sucks.

A work, of sorts, in progress, kinda.
John never thought that he was crazy until he was 25.
He had no reason to think he was different from any one else in the world, because up until he turned 25, he wasn’t. From the ages 1-24, he was, quite frankly, normal. Sure, when he was 14, he experienced the insecurity and self loathing that any kid feels as they pass through puberty. But he still played sports with his friends during...
